Our Story
The Little Sensory Bag Co. was founded by two sisters who wanted to recreate the magic of baby sensory classes at home. After experiencing the joy and developmental benefits of sensory groups with our own children, we set out to help other families create those special moments at home.
We specialise in unique baby sensory toys and carefully curated sets designed for newborns through to older children, including those with additional sensory needs such as ASD and ADHD. Every toy is safety tested to UKCA and/or CE standards, and each order is packed with care.
With personalisation options, create your own sets, and our signature on-the-go sensory bags, we focus on thoughtful details, beautiful gifting, and exceptional customer service. As a small independent business, we are proud to offer a unique range designed to support development, bonding, and play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are sensory toys good for babies?
Yes, sensory toys can be good for babies when they are safe, age suitable and used with care. Babies learn by looking, listening, reaching, grasping and mouthing, so simple sensory play can help them explore the world around them. It can also support early bonding, as your baby learns from your voice, touch, facial expressions and shared play. Sensory play should feel gentle, not overwhelming. A few minutes with a scarf, rattle or textured ball can be enough, especially for a young baby. Follow your baby’s cues. If they turn away, fuss or seem tired, pause and try again later. The best play often comes from calm, loving moments rather than lots of toys at once.
When do babies need sensory toys?
Babies can enjoy sensory play from birth, but they do not need lots of toys straight away. In the early weeks, your face, voice, cuddles and simple high contrast patterns offer rich sensory input. As your baby grows, carefully chosen toys can add new ways to play, from watching a scarf move to reaching for a rattle or feeling different textures. The right time depends on your baby’s stage, interest and comfort. Newborns may enjoy black and white images, gentle sounds and soft fabrics. Older babies may like grasping toys, mirrors, textured balls and items that roll, crinkle or make a soft noise. Keep play short, supervised and matched to your baby’s age and development.
Why are sensory toys good for babies?
Sensory toys are good for babies because they encourage safe, hands-on discovery. When a baby looks, reaches, touches, shakes or tracks an object, they build small skills that support wider development. These early play moments may help with attention, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, body awareness and confidence. They also give parents and carers easy ways to connect. You can describe colours, copy sounds, smile, sing or move a toy slowly from side to side. This turns play into a warm shared experience. Our sensory bags are designed to make those moments easy to enjoy at home, on the go or as a beautiful gift for a new family.
What are sensory toys for babies?
Sensory toys for babies are play items that invite a baby to explore through sight, sound, touch and movement. They may include high contrast cards, soft scarves, textured balls, rattles, baby-safe mirrors, crinkle toys and gentle lights. Each one gives your little one a simple way to notice colour, shape, texture, sound and cause and effect. At The Little Sensory Bag Co., we choose sensory toys with real family life in mind. Our range supports calm, curious play at home, during tummy time, in a changing bag or as part of a thoughtful baby gift. Always choose age suitable toys, check safety guidance and supervise play, especially with newborns and young babies.
